2 policemen linked to bullion van robberies shot dead; four others arrested

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that the two policemen who were arrested in connection with a series of bullion van robberies have been shot dead.

The suspects Constable Reindolph Gyimah Ansah and Lance Corporal Stephen Kwaku Nyame sustained gunshot wounds during a crossfire in an intelligence-led operation at Borteyman near Ashaiman in Accra, according to a statement issued by the police.

They were, however, pronounced dead by medics at the Police Hospital, where they were rushed for treatment.

The police, however, said four more officers were arrested in the operation which targeted a gang connected with the crime.

A fifth suspect believed to be a civilian was also arrested while some five others have gone into hiding.

The police in the statement signed by the Director-General of Public Relations, DCOP Kwesi Ofori, said the arrested officers have all been interdicted and will be put before court on Wednesday, 9th March 2022.
