30 health workers test positive for Covid-19 in Ashanti Region

A total of 30 health workers have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Ashanti Region, according to the Ghana Health Service.

Director of Health Services in the Ashanti Region, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang who made this disclosure at a press briefing Wednesday, however, disclosed that the medics are responding to treatment.

This figure is part of the region’s total case count which currently stands at 886 with seven deaths as of May 20, 2020.

The Health Director also said that 25 out of 43 Districts and Municipal Assemblies have reported cases of the virus.

Obuasi still leads with 587 cases in the region; but Dr Tenkorang told reporters that the situation is under control.

“We have a total of 30 health workers having Covid-19 in the region and all of them are doing very well,” said Dr Tenkorang, adding: “We have new infections however the good news is that the new infections are going down especially in Obuasi.”

32 nurses and midwives test positive for Covid-19 in Ghana

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) had earlier indicated that 32 nurses and midwives had tested positive for Covid-19.

One of its members unfortunately lost her life at Nsuta in the Tarkwa/Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.

Sophia Addo, 54, who was a staff of the Ghana Manganese Hospital, passed away on Friday, May 8, while receiving treatment at the same facility which had already confirmed two cases of the virus.

Madam Addo until her death, was assigned to pre-triage and participated actively in screening clients who attended the hospital.

She reported sick on Wednesday, May 6 and had returned home after treatment, the GRNMA said in the statement adding that Addo’s health condition worsened and started showing signs of Covid-19. issued by the Western Region branch of the GRNMA.

The medic also had underlying medical conditions, the Association indicated in the statement.

Ghana’s Covid-19 case count

Ghana has recorded 178 new COVID-19 cases to increase the caseload to 6,096, according to a late evening update by the Ghana Health Service on Tuesday.

The death toll still stands at 31 with 19 more recoveries recorded, making the total 1,773. Eight people are in critical condition, according to the update.

The total number of tests administered as of May 19, 2020 was 184, 343.
