376 suspected criminals arrested in joint police – military crackdown in Ghana

A total of 376 suspected criminals were arrested in separate police and military swoops in three regions of Ghana within the last 24 hours.

The operations took place in the Northern, Western and Greater Accra regions.

In the north, a total of 18 suspected to be engaging in criminal activities were arrested in Tamale.  They were arrested in three separate swoops by a joint police and military contingent on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 based on intelligence gathered.

According to a police statement, the aim of the exercise was to flush out criminals who have been terrorizing residents in the Metropolis and its surroundings.

Police also impounded eight motorbikes which were left behind by suspects who bolted during the operation.

Substances suspected to be narcotics were also seized. Police say the suspects have since been detained and will be screened.

Also in the Western region, the Police Command with support from other security agencies on Thursday, September 12, 2019, arrested 217 suspected criminals within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The suspects are reportedly behind criminal activities within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. The suspects are made up of 194 males and 19 females.

Several wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, toffees laced with drugs and Tramadol were retrieved from the suspects.

In the Greater Accra region, a total of 141 suspects including 15 females were rounded up during a joint police and military special exercise. They have been taken to the police headquarters for screening.

A statement from the police said the exercise was part of efforts to “ensure total security in the country” as well as intensify the war against crime “by taking the fight to the doorsteps of criminals.
