President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Abraham Amaliba as the Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA). The appointment, effective January 23, 2025, was made in line with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 13(2) of the National Road Safety Authority Act, 2019 (Act 993).

The President emphasized that this decision was taken pending the Constitutionally required advice from the NRSA’s governing board, which must be provided in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

Mr. Amaliba, who currently serves as the Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been officially notified of his appointment. He is expected to confirm his acceptance within 14 days.

In a statement signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, President Mahama congratulated Mr. Amaliba on his new role and extended his best wishes. The President expressed confidence in Amaliba’s ability to oversee the effective management of the NRSA and prioritize road safety initiatives.

“This appointment underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing road safety and ensuring the efficient functioning of the National Road Safety Authority,” the statement added.

The announcement has been shared with key stakeholders, including the Vice President, Chief of Staff, Minister of Transport, NRSA Board Chairman, and the Chairperson of the Public Services Commission.

This new leadership is expected to play a vital role in advancing road safety policies and addressing the nation’s pressing road safety challenges.
