Kwabena Adu-Boahen, former Director of the National Signals Bureau, has been remanded into the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven days by the High Court in Accra. This decision was made during a hearing held on Friday, May 2, 2025.
The court’s ruling followed a request by Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, who argued that recent intelligence reports indicated Adu-Boahen had attempted to interfere with a key prosecution witness in the ongoing theft case against him. Dr. Ayine urged the court to remand the accused to prevent any obstruction of justice.
However, Adu-Boahen’s lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, firmly denied the allegations, challenging the reliability of the intelligence and dismissing claims that his client had any means or intention to influence witnesses.
Initially, the presiding judge chose to postpone the ruling in order to privately review the intelligence evidence. After considering the arguments and preliminary materials, the judge ruled in favor of remanding Adu-Boahen, stating it was necessary to safeguard the legal process while allowing the prosecution time to finalize its witness statements.
“This decision seeks to strike a balance between the rights of the accused and the need for the state to adequately prepare its case,” the judge explained.
Meanwhile, two other individuals involved in the case—Angela Adjei-Boateng, Adu-Boahen’s wife, and Mildred Donkor, a former bank relationship officer—were granted bail.
During proceedings, Dr. Ayine also revealed that Adu-Boahen is under separate investigation related to activities at Ghana Water Limited, hinting at possible further legal challenges for the former official.
Adu-Boahen is scheduled to reappear before the court on Friday, May 9, 2025.
