Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has revealed that his target was to qualify Black Stars to the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar, stating that AFCON 2021 was his primary target.

The Serbian tactician was reacting to Black Stars elimination from the tournament after defeat to debutants Comoros.

Ghana, who are four-time African champions were bundled out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage after losing 3-2 in their final group C game to the Islanders.

The debutants shocked the Black Stars after captain El Fardou Ben Mohammed capitalized on poor defending from the Stars and broke the deadlock after four minutes, and just when Ghana were about finding their way into the game, captain Andre Ayew was sent off for a foul on goalkeeper Ben Moina.

The Stars scored twice through Richmond Boakye Yiadom and Alexander Djiku but poor defending saw Ahmewd Mogni kill the game with five minutes remaining to hand the Black Stars an early exit from the tournament.

Speaking after the match the Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac said: “My target was to qualify Ghana for the World Cup, this AFCON is my primary target”

“I am looking forward in qualifying Ghana for the World Cup in March” he said.

Ghana are in the final stages of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and will know their opponents in February before the games in March.
