Akufo-Addo appoints Oppong-Boanuh acting IGP

President Akufo-Addo has asked the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, to act as IGP until a substantive IGP is appointed.

The substantive IGP David Asante-Apeatu was on Monday, 22 July 2019 relieved of his post.

Mr. Asante-Apeatu has proceeded on leave with immediate effect, pending his retirement from the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, 14th August, 2019.

He is due to retire from the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, 14th August, 2019.

“The President thanked him for his many years of service to the country, and wished him well in his retirement,” director of communication Eugene Arhin said in the statement.

Oppong-Boanuh was granted a one-year contract extension last year October following his retirement. Until his appointment, Mr Oppong-Buanuh was the Director-General of Administration.
