President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially signed the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill 2024 into law, following its passage by Parliament in July.
The legislation is designed to tackle gender imbalances across social, cultural, economic, and political spheres, addressing historical discrimination against women and the effects of entrenched patriarchal systems and norms.
The law aims to promote gender equity in both the public and private sectors, ensuring fair representation and opportunities for all genders.
This development was announced by the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
“Update: President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo @NAkufoAddo has assented to the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024. Next Step: Implementation,” she shared.
