The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will resume his mediation efforts between the two factions involved in the Bawku conflict starting Monday, April 28.
This development follows an assurance by President John Mahama, who confirmed that the peace process led by the Asantehene would continue as part of national efforts to restore stability in the troubled area.
In a statement released on April 15, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II announced that the mediation sessions would be held from April 28 to May 1 at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, aiming to find lasting solutions to the disturbances in Bawku.
Meanwhile, Security Analyst Colonel Festus Aboagye (Retired) has called for greater support for the Asantehene’s peace initiative. In an opinion piece published on Monday, Colonel Aboagye stressed the need for a broader approach to the mediation efforts by adopting multi-track diplomacy.
He proposed, “Support Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s mediation through multi-track diplomacy, incorporating diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women’s peacebuilding networks.”
According to him, involving different segments of society would help build a more inclusive and sustainable peace in Bawku.
