Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has reaffirmed his strong commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in Bawku and nearby communities affected by long-standing unrest.

This renewed assurance comes in the wake of a temporary halt in peace negotiations, due to the complex nature of the chieftaincy dispute that has fueled the protracted conflict in the region.

Despite the challenges, the Asantehene expressed optimism that recent mediation efforts involving the opposing sides will lead to a peaceful resolution.

During an engagement with a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace, the Asante monarch underscored the critical role of peace in national development and the responsibility of traditional leaders in promoting harmony.

“We need peace to develop. My duty, together with the traditional authority, is to make sure that there is peace everywhere,” he stated. “Therefore, we make sure that we adjudicate issues when there are conflicts everywhere so that the government can also have peace to do its work.”

Referring to the ongoing unrest in Bawku, he added, “Recently there have been some communal conflict within the upper part of Ghana, closer to Burkina Faso (Bawku), but we are putting in every effort to ensure there is lasting peace.”

Otumfuo’s words reaffirm the importance of traditional leadership in conflict resolution and offer hope for a peaceful future in Bawku.
