Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pushed back against claims that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is attempting to separate himself from the record of the Akufo-Addo administration during the party’s ongoing “Thank You Tour.”

Amid growing criticism and public speculation that the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer is subtly avoiding responsibility for the government’s perceived failures, Ahiagbah clarified that Bawumia’s remarks are not attempts to dissociate, but rather reflect a collective voice and shared legacy.

“I don’t think he is distancing himself. It’s a way of speaking…If you listen to him, you’ll realise he is speaking from a collective standpoint,” Ahiagbah explained during an appearance on Channel One’s Newsroom on Monday, April 28.

He reaffirmed that Dr. Bawumia remains fully aligned with the decisions and policies made by the administration he served in as Vice President, noting that any real effort to shift blame would raise internal questions.

“There is no way Dr. Bawumia will distance himself because we are all together in that decision. If he made any attempts to distance himself, perhaps I would ask questions myself,” he stated.

Ahiagbah also challenged the notion that there could be any strategic gain in Bawumia disassociating from the government’s record. He emphasized that the Vice President’s tone reflects accountability and unity, not denial or deflection.

“What benefit would that bring to anybody to want to distance himself from collective efforts?” he asked, underscoring that the NPP’s message moving forward is one of shared responsibility and a commitment to progress.
