Accra Hearts of Oak SC defeated Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in the playoffs first leg clash at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Wydad started the game on a blistering pace and caused a lot of problems for the Phobians in the first 20 minutes of the match with some decent chances.

Hearts took control of the match and should have gotten themselves a spot kick when Afriyie Barnieh was brought down by the goalkeeper inside the box but the referee waved play to continue.

Hearts continued with their dominant display and started creating some half chances in the game.

Few minutes to the end of the first half, Salifu Ibrahim whipped a great ball into the box which was excellently converted by Isaac Mensah to give the home team the lead at half time.

The Rainbow Boys were hugely the better side in the second half and played well but all their efforts to get a second goal was thwarted by bad officiating on countless times.

Kofi Kordzi came close to scoring but his great strike was excellently dealt with by the Wydad goalie to keep the score at 1-0.

It ended 1-0 to the Rainbow Boys who will travel to face WAC in the second leg next weekend in Casablanca.
