The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, has withdrawn a court application that challenged the conditions of his bail.
He had filed the motion at the High Court in Accra on May 30, 2025, hoping to reduce the GH¢50 million bail set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). His lawyers argued that the bail amount was too high and could prevent his release.
The hearing was set for Tuesday, June 3, but his legal team withdrew the case a day before, on Monday, June 2.
Chairman Wontumi has been in EOCO custody since May 27, 2025. He is being investigated for serious criminal charges including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has stated that further investigations have linked Wontumi to a larger international organised crime network.
