The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has declared strike in six regions over poor condition of service, leaving over 600,000 students stranded on ‘My First Day at School.’
The teachers are striking in the Northern, Upper West, East, Volta, Central and Greater Accra regions.
They said the strike takes effect today, September 10, 2019 – a day coinciding with re-opening day at school popularly known as ‘My First Day at School’ in Ghana.
GNAT’s action follows a similar strike declared by a sister group – National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) over same demands.
NAGRAT is on strike over the newly introduced Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) acquired by the Public Services Commission, unpaid allowances and delayed promotions among others.
