Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has expressed concerns about how land litigation cases are being handled in the courts, pointing to exploitation by some Judicial Service staff in the management of land-related documents.
Justice Torkornoo highlighted a disturbing trend where certain court staff manipulate land documents in favor of specific individuals in exchange for bribes. She called for an immediate end to such corrupt practices.
Addressing Judicial Service staff in Cape Coast during the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Judicial Service Staff Association, she urged them to uphold high standards of public service. She emphasized the need to change the perception of corruption within the judiciary.
The Chief Justice also voiced her concern over the increasing involvement of some court staff in criminal activities, such as creating fake divorce documents and fraudulent letters of administration. These illegal actions, she noted, often result in the depletion of accounts belonging to deceased persons, robbing rightful beneficiaries of their inheritance.
She issued a strong warning to those engaged in such activities, stressing that these practices contribute to delays in the delivery of justice.
