The Ministry of National Security has issued a statement, providing additional details about the arrest of the two Citi FM/TV employees on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
Mr Kudah was arrested by operatives at the National Security when he was detected filming a fleet of vehicles parked at the enclave without any authorization.
He was said to have sent the files to his colleague Zoe Abu Baidoo Addo who was later picked up during a raid at the Accra-based radio station by armed officers.
Caleb had claimed on national television that he was brutalised by the officers without any provocation during interrogation.
The development has since attracted widespread outrage among members of the public who want the officers punished.
In the statement however, the Ministry of National Security justified the arrest of the two journalists.
The Ministry said Mr Kudah filmed those cars within its precincts hence breaching the “No photography rule at such restricted security zones”. It further accused Caleb of accessing the premises under false pretense.
“It was also revealed that Mr Kudah had forwarded the footages he had taken surreptitiously to Ms Zoe Abu Baidoo. Upon declining an invitation for an interrogation, Ms Abu Baidoo was picked up by operatives of the Ministry”, the statement signed by the Chief Director at the National Security Ministry said.
The Ministry however said it has initiated investigations into claims that the two journalists were manhandled during interrogation.
“The Ministry of National Security wishes to assure the Public that appropriate actions shall be taken if the allegations are found to be true”, the statement said.
