Ghana’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP James Oppong-Buanuh has ordered an immediate closure of all police training schools across the country following an outbreak of the Coronavirus disease.

The action takes immediate effect, following confirmed cases of the deadly Coronavirus in the West African nation.

Six persons, including a student of the University of Ghana, have tested positive and are being monitored closely by medics.

The Ghana Police Service in a wireless message has since directed a suspension of all recruit training activities at various training schools in Koforidua, Kumasi, Pwalugu and Ho.

The move, according to the service, is a precautionary measure as the deadly disease sparks fears in Ghana.

The service also directed all recruits be released to report back to their various homes “and wait for further directives”.

“All Commanding Officers are to ensure that the necessary protocols are in place for the recall of the recruits to resume training when directed”, the wireless message ended.

Six confirmed Covid-19 cases in Ghana

Ghana confirmed four more cases of the deadly Coronavirus, bringing the number to six — patients who have contracted the deadly disease.

Officials said at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, March 14, that the patients are being monitored closely.

The country also announced travel restrictions as a measure to prevent the deadly disease since most of the cases were “imported” into the country.

Partial lockdown announced amid fears

Ghana has shut down all educational institutions – universities, second cycle schools and basic schools – effective Monday, March 16, 2020, president Akufo-Addo announced Sunday evening.

All churches and public gatherings including funerals have been banned in the next four weeks due to the coronavirus disease, according to the president.

“All public gatherings festivals, political rallies, religious events have been suspended for the next four weeks,” Akufo-Addo announced.

President Akufo-Addo noted that private burials are allowed but should just be for a few people.
