Covid-19: Let’s prove we’re ready – Rev Obeng urges churches

The General Overseer of Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC), Reverend Ransford Obeng, has tasked the church to be in readiness to observe all protocols associated with COVID-19.

This, he noted, would settle the minds of its members as well as government officials that the church is a safer place for people to congregate for worship.

Addressing the media in Kumasi on Friday, the General Overseer said CCC was ready to observe all the protocols of COVID-19 and was determined to test every one who steps foot on its compound.

Reverend Obeng, however, asked that a monitoring team be set up by government to inspect all churches in the localities of Ghana to see those who were really ready to operate in the face of the COVID-19 disease.

“I appeal to the church of Ghana to put in place measures that would offer protection and safety for congregants so that when the restrictions on public gatherings are lifted the church can function effectively’’, the CCC leader posited.

Showcasing some thermometer guns the church had purchased including washing items and sanitizers at vantage points at the church compound, Rev Obeng said the church would also conduct periodic disinfection of its facilities and compound to ensure nothing is left to chance.

He disclosed that ushers of the church would be placed at vantage points to assist congregants to undertake the mandatory health checks as well as the hand-washing protocols.

Doctors and nurses as well as the Police would be stationed at special places to attend to those who may require their assistance or for the enforcement of the protocols.

Reverend Obeng said when the ban is lifted the church would conduct four services for adults on Sundays between 8am and 11am while JHS pupils as well as SHS students would have theirs on Saturdays at two service intervals just to observe the protocols.

“CCC has 3000 members and because of COVID-19 protocols, two places that is our main auditorium and our big shed have been designated to host congregants with the former taking 400 and the latter seating 300 in four streak services’’, Rev Obeng revealed.

Challenge

Reverend Obeng disagreed with persons who claim the church has no role to play in the COVID-19 outbreak in the world.

He noted that what happens naturally or physically first happens in the spirit realm and hence the importance of prayer to tackle same.

Reverend Obeng said even though combating COVID-19 once it is full blown requires scientific measures there cannot be a total eradication of same without prayer.

The church, he argued, therefore offers a better atmosphere for spiritual battle against COVID-19 than any other place.

“Nobody can downplay the importance of the church in this season of COVID-19 pandemic and the corporate prayer from the people of God offers us a better opportunity to deal with this viral disease than the application of science alone’”, the CCC vision-carrier stressed.
