COVID-19: NPP campaign manager Mac Manu, Carlos Ahenkorah at ICU

The campaign manager for the New Patriotic Party for the 2020 general elections Peter Mac Manu and Deputy Trade Minister Carlos Ahenkorah have tested positive for COVID-19.

The two are currently on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the nation’s capital, Accra, reports CNR.

Ghana’s coronavirus caseload is now 18, 134 after 393 new cases were recorded, according to the Ghana Health Service. The death toll has increased to 117 after five new deaths were also reported.

A former general secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party and CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as ‘Sir John’ becomes the latest government appointee to have died of the contagion.

He died of COVID-19 while on a ventilator at the intensive care unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Wednesday evening. He was 77.

In mid-June, the Mayor of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, K.K. Sam, who also tested positive for the disease died at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.
