Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, has taken a significant step toward a potential presidential bid within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). On Thursday, May 29, he announced the establishment of an exploratory committee to assess the feasibility of his candidacy.
According to Dr. Acheampong, the move comes after receiving strong encouragement from various party supporters and following thorough discussions with his family and close associates.
The committee’s main task will be to consult widely with grassroots members, key party stakeholders, and citizens nationwide. Its goal is to determine whether Dr. Acheampong’s leadership vision resonates with the goals of the NPP and the broader interests of Ghanaians. The findings are expected to be submitted within a month.
“This team shares my commitment to unity and discipline in the party, as well as priorities like job creation, food security, youth empowerment, infrastructure, national security, and good governance,” Dr. Acheampong said.
Reflecting on his political journey, he described his involvement in the NPP as both personal and long-standing. He highlighted his experience as a grassroots organiser, party staffer, four-term MP, Cabinet Minister, and a consistent financial supporter of the party.
“These responsibilities have given me a deep understanding of the dedication and strategic planning needed to grow and sustain our party,” he noted.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the NPP and expressed strong belief in its ability to navigate current challenges and lead Ghana forward.
“To all party members and supporters, I remain confident in our collective strength to overcome obstacles and guide Ghana towards a better future. Let us stay united, respectful, and focused as we pursue progress and effective leadership for our nation. May God guide us all,” he concluded.
Dr. Acheampong now joins other prominent figures in the NPP signaling interest in influencing the party’s direction ahead of internal elections and the 2028 national polls.
