The Ekumfi Traditional Council has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to ensure equitable distribution of resources and development in the Central Region.
According to the council, Mahama’s deep respect for traditional authorities across the country earned him widespread support in the elections, and they urged him to stay committed to that principle during his tenure.
The council also criticized remarks made earlier this year by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who suggested that Ekumfi was denied development because its residents did not vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Francis Ato Cudjoe, in the 2020 elections. They described such comments as unfortunate and divisive.
Odeefuor Akyin VIII, President of the Ekumfi Traditional Council, appealed to Mahama to distribute development projects fairly, ensuring Ekumfi receives its fair share of resources and opportunities.
As the political successor to the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who hailed from the Central Region, the council affirmed its recognition of Mahama as a “son of the land.” They expressed hope that he would prioritize the needs of Ekumfi and other communities in the region.
The council reiterated its commitment to supporting Mahama’s leadership while urging him to fulfill his mandate of fostering unity and inclusive development.
