Ghanaians go to the polls on Monday, December 7, 2020, to either retain or reject the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and John Dramani Mahama.

A total number of 17,027,641 eligible voters are expected to exercise their franchise in Monday’s crucial elections except for those disqualified for infringement on electoral laws.

Conscious of the unbearable sufferings electoral violence brought onto many other African nations, patrons of Finishline Gym and Sports Centre, located at Onyinase lane 4, a suburb of Awoshie on Saturday, December 5, 2020, embarked on a peace walk aimed at urging Ghanaians to uphold the country’s peace and unity.

Themed; “The Peace Concept”, the walk began at the premises of the gym and ended up at the McCarthy hill in the Weija Gbawe constituency.

Speaking to dailymail.com.gh, the CEO of Finishline Gym and Sports Centre, Aziz Mahama, said: “It has been a heated campaign and if care isn’t taken the country could descend into the abyss. Hence, we decided to walk to urge caution.”

“I feel it even united the people on the street,” one of the walkers added.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to the peace and stability of the country and has assured the Ghanaian people of his readiness to accept the verdict of the election.

“I have said that we believe in elections, and I am happy to give my word that we shall accept the verdict of the people of Ghana. Above all, I pledge that the peace, unity, and safety of Ghana will be our primary consideration,” the President said.

President Akufo-Addo made this known on Friday, 4th December 2020, when he delivered a statement at the 2020 Peace Pact ceremony in Accra.

Series of polls published days to the elections dimmed the NDC’s chances in the elections.

The latest, published on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, said Akufo-Addo would beat the presidential candidate of the party, John Dramani Mahama, in the presidential race.

According to the poll, the president would be victorious with 56.6 percent of the valid votes cast while Mahama would collect 38.8 percent.
