The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has delivered a sharp rebuke of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of evading responsibility for the country’s economic troubles and questioning his credibility as a leader.
Speaking in an interview on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, Kwetey did not hold back in his criticism of the former head of the Economic Management Team under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
“Bawumia is an epitome of deception. It’s the truth. On the fact that every step of the way, this was a gentleman who was more interested in spinning than telling the truth. This is a gentleman who didn’t have the courage to own up to the fact that they mismanaged the economy. He was the head of the Economic Management Team, it’s not symbolic, he was in charge,” Kwetey declared.
He further accused Dr. Bawumia of backing away from responsibility at a crucial time when the economy began to falter.
“When the moment came for the difficulties to be acknowledged, he ran away, pretended and said he was not in charge, it wasn’t him. That in itself tells you, you are not in leadership, you are a coward,” he charged.
Kwetey wrapped up his remarks by casting doubt on Dr. Bawumia’s moral and leadership qualities, suggesting that he lacks the key attributes required for high office.
“You don’t have a sense of responsibility, you cannot take accountability, and if you don’t have these attributes, you dare not think of the leadership of any country. Because you are morally weak,” he concluded.
