The first floor of GCB Bank branch at Liberty House in the Central Business District of Accra was on fire on Saturday, leaving some properties destroyed.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started a few minutes before 11am. “We’ve managed to contain it within that floor. At the moment we want to make sure the other floors are safe,” an official of the Fire Service, who wants to remain anonymous, said.
Firefighters had difficulty accessing the scene due to human traffic, however, it has been brought under control.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
Personnel of the Ghana Police Service have also arrived at the scene to maintain law and order as curious onlookers make it difficult for officials to access the scene.
