The timely intervention of firefighters prevented a fire from spreading to parts of the Ejura Market Wednesday dawn.

The officers were called to the scene when some wooden structures at the popular market caught fire at about 5 am local time.

Structures that have been used to store farm produce including maize, millet, and sorghum were razed down by the inferno when Dailymailgh.com visited the scene.

“Everything in the storage facility has been destroyed”, said correspondent, Kwabena Agyei Adomarakwa, adding that, “it would have been a disaster but for the intervention of firefighters.”

Ejura/Sekyedumase Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service DO III Festus Opoku Boafo said the team is yet to establish the main cause of the fire.

“Upon reaching the ground we saw that one wooden container was set ablaze. There was no light there so we tried to bring the fire under control which took us about an hour. A fire cannot start on its own. We could see that there was rubbish around that they were burning. Probably one of the debris may have caused the fire. As it stands proper investigations have started,” the fire officer said.

In a separate development, investigations have started after parts of the Chemistry Department of the University of Education, Winneba, South Campus was razed down.

It still remains unclear about the cause of the fire but footages capture laboratory apparatus badly damaged as firefighters from the Winneba station ascertain the cause of the blaze.

Management has since been notified of the development.
