Fisherman sentenced to one week in jail for assaulting partner during domestic dispute

The Gender-Based Violence Court, situated at the Police Headquarters in Accra, has handed a one-week prison sentence with hard labour to 29-year-old fisherman Nii Baah Afful for physically assaulting his partner, Francisca Aryee.

The incident occurred on March 20, 2025, at Korle Gonno, where Afful was seen attacking Aryee during a heated argument. Disturbingly, the assault took place while Aryee was holding their 8-month-old child.

Subsequent police investigations revealed that the two lived together and had two children.

Afful was arrested two days later, on March 22, 2025, by the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit. He was later arraigned and remanded by the court before his sentencing.
