Fomesua: Groom, 40, dies in crash hours before wedding reception

A 40-year-old man was killed in a horror crash just hours before his wedding reception on Sunday (13 March, 2022).

The incident is said to have happened at Fomesua on the Ejisu-Kumasi road, shortly after the marriage ceremony itself had taken place according to Islamic tradition.

Zakari Babangida, who was in charge a Ford vehicle, reportedly lost control and veered off his lane landing into a ditch.

It is reported that the he died shortly when he was ruched to the KNUST Police Station.

“It was an accident which involved a Ford Escape with registration number AS-3222-21. They were driving from Bomfs in Ejisu towards Kumasi direction. Upon reaching Fomesua, a section of the road, the information we received indicated that the driver of the Ford Escape was over speeding so in the process, he lost control of the steering wheel and hot a nearby culvert, and landed into a ditch”, Ejisu Divisional Commander with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, ASP Francis Mireku confirmed to Accra-based Citi FM.

He also indicated that four other victims who sustained various degrees of injury are receiving treatment at the KNUST Hospital.

The bride and another relative who became unconscious after the news broke regained consciousness moments later, it is reported.

The deceased has since been buried according to Islamic tradition.
