In a major political shift, former two-term Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Gifty Klenam, has officially left the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Klenam, who served in the Fourth and Fifth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic, also held the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Ghana Export Promotion Centre (GEPC) under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration. Her defection was made public on Thursday morning when she received her NDC membership card in the Anlo Constituency of the Volta Region, marking a new chapter in her political journey.
Explaining her decision to switch parties, Klenam highlighted ideological alignment and confidence in the NDC’s policies as key reasons for her move.
“Upon consultation with my family, I decided to join the NDC because it aligns with my values and vision for mother Ghana,” she stated.
She also expressed strong faith in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto, describing it as the most promising plan for Ghana’s development. After carefully assessing the party’s policies, Klenam believes that former President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership will drive the country toward progress and prosperity.
Additionally, she pledged to work closely with the NDC’s grassroots, focusing on community empowerment and creating opportunities to curb the rising trend of Ghanaian youth migrating abroad in search of better opportunities.
