Private legal practitioner and Convention People’s Party (CPP) member, Lawyer Kwame Jantuah, has suggested that former presidents be included in the Council of State to share their experience and insights on national issues.
Speaking on Dominion TV’s Wake Up Africa morning show with Korku Lumor, Lawyer Jantuah emphasized the need for past presidents to serve on the Council of State. According to him, their expertise would be invaluable in advising sitting presidents and guiding the country’s governance.
“All past presidents must be part and parcel of the Council of State. They have experience and have been through the challenges, and they advise the president. The president, every six to eight months, should have meetings with these past presidents. The partisanship stops this kind of thing. By not doing that, we are failing the youths,” he noted.
Additionally, the social analyst advocated for the independence of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), arguing that its autonomy would be crucial for Ghana’s development.
“They (NDPC) direct the country and the politicians follow. We should have all the different segments of the economy, and they drive the economy. At the moment, party manifestos drive our economy, and those who draft it do not follow it,” Lawyer Jantuah added.
He also spoke on the need to address the challenge of youth unemployment in Ghana.
