Ghana’s U-20 side, the Black Satellites, shared the spoils with DR Congo in a tightly contested 1-1 draw during their opening Group C match at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Suez, Egypt, on Thursday night.
DR Congo made a bright start and took the lead in the 16th minute. A lapse in Ghana’s defence allowed Messy Manitu to thread a precise ball through to Samuel Ntanda, who made no mistake as he calmly finished past the goalkeeper to put his side ahead.
Ghana reacted swiftly and pulled level just eight minutes later. Emmanuel Mensah delivered a brilliant through ball that split the Congolese defence, finding Aziz Musibau, who slotted home confidently to restore parity.
The second half saw both teams chasing a winning goal, but a combination of solid defending and missed chances kept the game tied. DR Congo maintained pressure in attack but lacked precision in the final third, while Ghana threatened on the counter but couldn’t find the decisive finish.
With a point apiece, both sides now look ahead to crucial second group matches. Ghana will face a tough challenge against defending champions Senegal, while DR Congo meets the Central African Republic.
