Winger, Meiveille Biankadi doubled the lead for the promotion chases on the 37th minutes of the match to give his side a breathing space.
Nicklas Hoheneder scored a consolation goal for the host 69 minutes into the the game.
Braunschweig, who are seeking promotion into the second tier of German football secured a vital win on the road to go top of the league.
Nkansah, 24, has scored twice this season in the German Bundesliga III.
