Get ready to be glued to your screens as Inspector Bediako, Ghana’s hit 90s detective series and one of the most loved TV series ever produced in Ghana, gets a remake in a brand new Akwaaba Magic series, also available to stream Showmax.

First released in 1993, Inspector Bediako starred Oscar Provencal in the lead role of Inspector Bediako, a detective who’s adept at catching criminals no matter the situation.

Now remade with a fresh cast, the all-new Inspector Bediako is an eight-part series that follows Anthony Woode (Inside Out) as Inspector Bediako Jnr, aka Ike, a young detective who is thrown into the middle of a drug investigation after his promotion to an inspector at the Criminal Investigation Department, Ghana Police

More than two decades later, can he prove that he is worthy to wear his father’s legendary shoes?

Like his father, Ike uses smart and creative means to investigate and solve domestic criminal cases, from kidnapping and corruption to murder and robberies, to protect the public from danger.

But even though he is his own man, as he tries to prove himself to his colleagues, his legendary father is never too far away. Provencal reprises his role as Inspector Bediako Snr who, now retired,  guides and advises his son on the most complex cases.

Inspector Bediako is produced and directed by legendary Ghanaian filmmaker Ivan Quashigah (Things We Do for Love, YOLO, To Have and To Hold), who has described it as “a truly Ghanaian investigative crime series” that tackles local crime cases.

“We scan around for stories, from newspapers, from the news and from people around us,” Quashigah explains. “If we deal with these (local) issues instead of trying to copy shows like NCIS, Hawaii Five-0 and other investigative productions, we will be able to present something that is unique to us and that will easily be understood by our people.”

Inspector Bediako also stars comedian and actor Kalybos (Ghana Jollof) as Nasiru, the best in his field, who examines and analyses the toughest evidence; Vincent McCauley (The Things We Do for Love) as the computer genius Morkporkpor; Brian Angels (The Burial of Kojo) as Adjetey aka Blade, Ike’s rival and one of the best officers in the unit; Darlyn Adu-Gyamfi (Black Lady Goddess) as Grace, a tough officer with a score to settle; Ekow Blankson (To Have and to Hold) as Chief of Police; and the 2020 winner of Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, Naa Dedei Botchwey, as Adjoa, Ike’s love interest.

Catch Inspector Bediako on Showmax, with new episodes releasing every Monday at same time as they air on Akwaaba Magic.
