Ghanaian international Bernard Tekpetey has signed a two-year loan deal with Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Tekpetey is initially contracted to Schalke 04 who exercised their buy-back clause on him from Paderborn this summer but he has been loaned out as he seeks first team action.

Dusseldorf sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel is pleased with Tekpetey’s signing as he believes he will be very useful to his side.

“Bernard Tekpetey fits in perfectly with our requirement profile. He is a young, developable player who has already been able to set the first accents in German professional football,” Pfannenstiel stressed.

“His speed and assertiveness made him one of the best offensive players in the Bundesliga last season. I am convinced that he can also show his strengths a class higher,” the director noted.

“I am very excited about the opportunity given to me by this beautiful club and I am going to work hard for this new challenge and chapter in my career,” said Tekpetey.

“We are very glad to have Tekpetey in our team, his professionalism is exceptional and in him we have acquired a great professional and we believe he will stay beyond the loan period,” said Thomas Röttgermann club president.

Tekpetey, 21, netted 10 goals and provided six assists in 32 games last season as Paderborn secured Bundesliga qualification.
