Ghana’s World Cup Hopes: ‘A Mere Dream or a Possible Miracle in Abuja

Ghana’s Black Stars hope making it to the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament at the expense of in-form Super Eagles of Nigeria today; – A mere dreams or a possible Abuja miracle.

Ghana are hoping to make it to their fourth FIFA World Cup appearance but face a stumbling block tonight at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja when they square off with six times participants.

The Black Stars players and the Ghanaian general public seems to have grown in confidence after being able to keep the dangerous Nigeria attack at the bay in the first leg of the playoffs last Friday evening in Kumasi.

Due to the impressive performance against the Super Eagles of Nigeria last Friday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, many doubters have now turned into believers as Ghana take on Nigeria at 17h00 GMT on Tuesday, March 29.

Can Ghana exorcise the ghost in them and bring back the spirit of 2006 squad and replicate their performance leading to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

On 18th June 2005 the Black Stars of Ghana produced one of the biggest away performances the national team has ever recorded by defeating South Africa two goals to nothing in a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Mattew Amoah in the 59th minute gave Ghana an important breakthrough before Chelsea star Michael Essien killed the game in the 90th minute.

That victory at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg put the Black Stars in a strong position to qualify for their first ever FIFA World Cup in Germany 2006. This represents the last time Ghana recorded a great result on the road against a credible African opposition.

Ghana needs any kind of scoring draw to see them through to the next FIFA World Cup tournament which will be staged in November in Qatar.

On the other hand, the Super Green Eagles must get themselves a win or goalless to send the game into the extra time and a possible penalty shoot-outs to have a ticket to Qatar.

Can the Black Stars pull a surprise and do the unthinkable tonight by eliminating favourites, Nigeria and qualify for the 2022 FIFA mundial against all odds.

Kickoff is 5pm.
