Ghana U-20 goalkeeper Gidios Aseako put on a stellar performance to help his side secure a narrow 1-0 victory over defending champions Senegal in their second Group C game at the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Suez.
Aseako was at his very best throughout the match, making seven crucial saves to deny Senegal an equaliser. His outstanding reflexes and calm under pressure earned him the man-of-the-match award and played a key role in Ghana’s defensive resilience.
Although Ghana scored early in the first half, the second half saw Senegal dominate possession and launch waves of attacks. However, the Black Satellites’ defence, marshalled by Aseako, stood strong to protect their slim lead.
The result puts Ghana level on four points with DR Congo at the top of the group. Ghana will face Central African Republic in their final group game, while Senegal must beat DR Congo to keep their hopes of advancing alive.
