GIFEC Jaman South CIC in collaboration with MTN Ghana under the GIFEC ICT training and awareness Program hosted a cybersecurity forum on the theme Online Safety and MoMo Fraud Amidst Covid-19.
The forum had over 40 audiences from governmental and private institutions, financial institutions, MoMo users, and the general public in the municipality.
Mr. Emmanuel Odoom-Sagoe, a GIFEC municipal Rep speaking on password protection advised the hall to deceit from using weak and easy passwords and also from sharing passwords with others. He advised on the use of password managers and frequently changing passwords.
Godwin Genya Kwame, the GIFEC Technical Team Lead and host addressed the audience on “Social Engineering” as he explained in detail some common psychological manipulation methods to making people perform actions or divulging confidential information.
He advised that everyone can be a victim since social engineering may not necessarily require a expect computer attack but plays on emotions.
The System Administrator of St. Mary’s Hospital in Drobo, Mr. George Sie Speaking on the common technical cyber-attacks highlighted the use of active antivirus and firewalls.
He explained in detail how malware, ransomware, and viruses frequently used by cyber attackers and how simple are internet users can victims of the attacks. He demonstrated to the gathering some easy ways to prevent cyber-attacks which included simply ignoring spam messages.
Finally, Ernest Mamphey, the MTN Ghana Momo Controller for Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions unveiled three reliable ways to report MTN Mobile Money fraud cases.

He also advised participants about the alarming rate of MoMo fraud, especially during this COVID-19 era and the need to report all MoMo fraud cases as it has become a compulsory action than a choice.
On his part, the GIFEC zonal manager, Mr. Arnold Johnson shared the agency’s concern on the rising rate of cyber-attacks and the effect, especially on our less educated vulnerable parents.
He said that the Agency is collaborating with all potential cyber-crimes fighter to minimize these attacks mainly through education and awareness creation.
He shared the Agency’s plan to begin organizing more of such talk shows on the radio and public address centers in rural areas in few weeks to come.
