Accra Hearts of Oak SC beat Tarkwa-based Medeama SC in Ghana Premier League week 23 encounter before next Sunday’s Super Two clash against Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC.

The Rainbow Boys secured a point in midweek and needed to win this game to keep their hopes of defending the league title alive.

Striker Kwadwo Obeng Jnr was close to scoring for Hearts after a defensive mistake from the medeama defense. His kick was too shallow to beat Anaba in the 33rd minute.

Isaac Mensah broke the deadlock for Hearts of Oak in the 55th minute with a nice header from a Daniel Afriyie Barnieh cross despite the latter looking to be in an offside position before the ball was released to him.

Nonetheless, the goal stool and that was all the Phobians needed to defeat the Yellow and Mauves.

The defending league champions held onto the lead to secure the win at the Accra Sports Stadium to win the game 1-0.

They will play Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC next Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
