Justice William Atuguba, the newly appointed Chairman of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Council, has pledged to uphold academic freedom and help strengthen the university’s academic standards.

Speaking during a meeting with departmental heads on Tuesday, May 13, the retired Supreme Court judge acknowledged the weight of responsibility that comes with his new role and called for collective action to address existing challenges.

“I assure you that the appointment is not a sweet one because it is already infested. But I urge you to join hands and fight for the betterment of this university and also for the enhancement of academic freedom. Also the reinstatement of standards in the university,” he said.

Justice Atuguba stressed the importance of unity and collaboration in moving the university forward, adding that achieving excellence would require determination and support from all stakeholders.
