Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has taken a swipe at President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as poor handling of the recent scandal involving the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.

Speaking at the Entrepreneurship and National Leadership programme at Central University on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Agyapong expressed disappointment over the President’s failure to take decisive disciplinary action against Gyamfi.

According to the outspoken politician, the incident highlights a broader issue of nepotism and favoritism in Ghana’s governance system. He referenced a viral video that showed Gyamfi giving an unspecified amount of U.S. dollars to popular evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa.

“If I were the President, I would have dismissed Sammy Gyamfi without hesitation. The evidence was there for all to see—there was no need for any further investigation. Swift action would have sent a strong message,” Agyapong asserted.

He further condemned the widespread influence of political connections in securing jobs and placements, especially for graduates trying to complete their national service.

“Today, even to get a good national service posting, you must pay or know someone in power. If you don’t have political ties, you’re left out. This system is broken, and we must fix it,” he lamented.

Agyapong warned that unless nepotism and favoritism are tackled head-on, Ghana’s development will continue to suffer, with unqualified individuals occupying key positions.

The Sammy Gyamfi incident has sparked national concern, with many calling for investigations into potential breaches of the Foreign Exchange Act and ethical misconduct by a public official.
