The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has reassured students and staff of their safety following the tragic death of Joana Deladem Yabani, a fourth-year Biological Sciences student.
According to the university, her lifeless body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at approximately 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025. The KNUST Security Services were alerted to the incident and swiftly responded.
After confirming her passing, the university immediately transported the body to the University Health Services for further examination.
In an official statement released on Thursday, February 27, KNUST assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
“A comprehensive investigation is underway in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and the University Health Services to determine the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate death,” the statement read.
The university administration has also notified the deceased student’s family and urged students to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family.
Management further extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and assured that more information will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
“We will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds,” the statement concluded.
