Celebrated Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata has once again proven his lyrical brilliance by winning the Songwriter of the Year award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), marking his fifth time claiming this prestigious title.
Known for his powerful storytelling and socially conscious lyrics, Kinaata first won the award in 2016 with his hit “Susuka,” a song that also earned him the Best New Artiste of the Year title and signaled his arrival as a major force in Ghanaian music.
He followed up with another win in 2017 for “Confession,” a track widely praised for its creativity and relatable message. In 2020, Kinaata clinched the award again with “Things Fall Apart,” a thought-provoking song that explored moral and social issues in Ghanaian society.
In 2021, he made history as the first artist to win the Songwriter of the Year award four times, thanks to his heartfelt single “Behind The Scenes.” Although he lost the title in 2022 to Fameye’s “Praise,” Kinaata reclaimed it in 2025, further cementing his legacy as one of the finest songwriters in Ghana.
His unmatched lyrical style—fusing Fante rap, highlife, and hip-life—has earned him widespread admiration. Songs like “Susuka,” “Confession,” “Things Fall Apart,” and “Behind The Scenes” continue to resonate with fans and critics for their emotional depth and cultural significance.
Beyond the TGMA, Kinaata was recently honored with the Youth in Entertainment Award at the 2025 Otumfuo Millennium Excellence Awards, a recognition of his impact on the Ghanaian music landscape. His work has also been commended by prominent figures, including Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for its thoughtful and socially aware messages.
