Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, has urged the party to hold its next flagbearer election by December 2025 to allow adequate time for preparation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to Agyepong, an early decision on the party’s leadership will help reduce internal friction and provide the party with a clear direction moving forward. His comments come as the NPP reflects on its performance in the 2024 elections and considers strategies for rebuilding.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Agyepong stressed the importance of a timely flagbearer election, stating, “I think we should do it by December this year [2025]. It should be done as quickly as possible.”

He further explained that early elections would allow the party to shift focus to grassroots mobilization and strengthening its internal structures. “We would have expanded the base first. We need to build what I’m calling the constituency caucuses. We have executives in place, their mandate hasn’t expired. Once we elect a flagbearer, all members have to support the candidate,” he emphasized.

Agyepong’s call reflects growing discussions within the party about the need for unity, stability, and a proactive approach as it prepares for the next election cycle.
