The Abuakwa Traditional Council has served notice it will stage a public protest against Ghana’s biggest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for defaming their overlord Okyenhene.

The Council in a notice to the police said the protest is “against the national leadership of the National Democratic Congress for the abusive and provocative statements made by Kwame Zu, Ashanti regional secretary” of the party.

They have scheduled Monday, September 23, 2019 for the protest.

“In view of the heightened public interest, the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council kindly appeal to your outfit to provide the necessary security presence to ensure a successful outcome of the event.

“We wish to assure you that the event will be orderly and peaceful,” the notice signed by the state secretary D.M. Ofori-Atta said.

Mr. Zu is reported to have allegedly claimed that the people in the Eastern Region and Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II used to compete with animals over drinking water until former President John Dramani Mahama provided them with good and potable water.

“Until the former president provided potable drinking water for them, Okyenhene was drinking with animals as there was no good and potable water for Okyenhene and the people within Okyeman to drink,” the NDC Ashanti regional secretary said at a public event.
