A middle-aged man, who jumped the security fences of the Accra Zoo on Sunday (28 August 2022) and entered the lions enclosure has been mauled by one of the large cats, the Forestry Commission confirmed in a statement.
“The intruder was attacked and injured by one of the lions, within the inner fencing of the enclosure,” the commission’s statement said on Sunday. “The intruder has been confirmed dead from injuries sustained and the body has been conveyed to the morgue.”
The statement also denied rumours that one of the lions had escaped from the zoo.
“We wish to confirm that the lion, the lioness and the two cubs remain secured in their enclosure at the Accra Zoo,” the statement added.
