President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that approximately $400 million was spent on the Agenda 111 hospital project under the previous administration, yet not a single facility is fully operational.
Speaking during his first State of the Nation Address in his second term before Parliament on Tuesday, Mahama shed light on the financial expenditure of the ambitious healthcare initiative, which was intended to construct 111 hospitals across Ghana to address gaps in medical infrastructure.
Despite the massive investment, Mahama stated that none of the hospitals have been completed and put to use.
“It is worth disclosing that USD400m has already been disbursed under the Agenda 111 project,” he said, adding, “yet not a single hospital under this gargantuan initiative is serving the people of Ghana.”
Mahama further suggested that had the funds been properly managed, at least 22 hospitals could have been completed and made operational by now. His remarks highlight concerns about resource allocation and project execution, raising questions about efficiency and accountability in the use of public funds.
