On January 22, President John Dramani Mahama officially swore in six ministerial nominees following their approval by Parliament the previous day. The appointees, selected after rigorous vetting and parliamentary debates, represent the first set of ministers in his administration’s initial appointments for parliamentary endorsement.
The newly sworn-in ministers are:
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson: Minister for Finance
Dr. Dominic Ayine: Attorney General
John Jinapor: Minister for Energy and Green Transition
Haruna Iddrisu: Minister for Education
Eric Opoku: Minister for Food and Agriculture
Governs Kwame Agbodza: Minister for Roads and Highways
During the ceremony held at the Jubilee House, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s goal to remain the leanest and most efficient in Ghana’s history, with a firm limit of 60 ministerial appointments.
“As the ministers are approved by Parliament and as they are sworn in, I will proceed to name deputy ministers for some of the ministries, which will bring the total number of ministers to 60,” he assured.
The President also underscored his commitment to prioritizing the needs of the Ghanaian people, stating, “I am here to serve at the pleasure of Ghanaians.”
Turning to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the newly appointed Minister for Finance, President Mahama highlighted the weighty responsibilities of his office, particularly in stabilizing the nation’s economy. “Citizens are counting on you to stabilize the nation’s currency,” he emphasized.
This significant step marks the beginning of the President’s effort to assemble a team dedicated to advancing Ghana’s development.
