The Ghana Police Service have arrested owner of the Zen Filling Station, in connection with the murder of a police officer at Mankessim.

Isaac Eshun, is in custody, as the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service takes over investigations into the incident.

The Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Oppong said that preliminary crime scene investigations led to the arrest of Eshun, also known as Nana Nyeiku VII.

It is gathered that the spent cartridges retrieved from the murder scene were suspected to have been fired from the shotgun and pistol belonging to suspect Isaac Eshun.

The crime led to the death of Lance Corporal Kingsley Boahen.

Boahen was found in a supine position in a pool of blood wearing blue shorts with a white top.

The murder scene is about 200 metres from the filling station along the Mankessim-Kumasi road, the Daily Graphic reported.

DSP Oppong said efforts were underway to arrest a second suspect to assist with investigations.

Meanwhile, she said suspect Eshun will be put before court.

DSP Oppong said one pistol and one shotgun belonging to Eshun have been retrieved and retained for evidential purposes.

Police officers in Ghana appear to be the target in new wave of crimes in the West African nation.

At least five police officers were killed in August 2019 alone.

This brings to 48, the number of police officers reported to have died in the process of discharging their constitutional duties in Ghana from 2013 to date.
