The Minority Caucus in Parliament has reaffirmed its unwavering stance despite facing what it describes as intimidation from the Majority side. The group remains resolute, insisting that it will not be pressured into submission.
At a press conference on Monday, February 3, 2024, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized their determination, stating that their actions are motivated by national interest. He reassured Ghanaians that while they stand firm in their principles, they have no intention of obstructing government activities, stressing their commitment to cooperation in parliamentary proceedings.
“Indeed, we are going through difficult moments, but we will never be intimidated. Aluta continua, victoria acerta. We will not allow ourselves to be cowered. The mighty few and the happy few, we are going to stand our ground and ensure that the right thing is done, all in the national interest,” Afenyo-Markin declared.
He further clarified that the Minority has no plans to engage in disruptive tactics, affirming their dedication to constructive parliamentary engagement.
“We are not going to fight anybody, we are not going to disrupt and obstruct government business. So far, we have been the most cooperative in the chamber, and the NDC should applaud us for supporting them,” he added.
The Minority’s stance highlights their commitment to democratic principles, ensuring accountability while maintaining parliamentary cooperation.
