The Minority in Parliament has pledged its cooperation and commitment to supporting President John Dramani Mahama in his governance while ensuring he is accorded all necessary courtesies.
This assurance comes after Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga issued an apology to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta following a raid on Tuesday, February 11, led by National Security operative Richard Jakpa, along with individuals dressed in police and military uniforms.
In response to the apology, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the government’s move and reaffirmed the Minority’s readiness to work in a democratic and constructive manner.
> “My respected colleague, extend to His Excellency the President of the Republic, the assurances of the Minority that with this, we will also accord him every courtesy due him as president of the republic.”
He further emphasized the role of the Minority in balancing governance, ensuring accountability while also fostering national progress.
> “We would cooperate and oppose when we have to oppose. After all, our duty is to oppose you, and we can work together as a people to represent our people—for our people to learn from us, to teach us, to train us, and to help us advance this democracy.”
