Minority Members of Parliament have petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over the Electoral Commission’s delay in announcing the Parliamentary results for the Ablekuma North constituency following the 2024 General Elections.
Led by Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh, the MPs marched to the Police Headquarters on Wednesday, June 4, to formally express their concerns and demand action.
Addressing journalists after submitting the petition, Mr. Annoh Dompreh urged the police to ensure adequate security for the Electoral Commission to enable the timely declaration of the constituency’s results.
He emphasized the constitutional implications of the delay, stating, “The absence of a declared MP for Ablekuma North constitutes a serious violation of the right to representation guaranteed by the 1992 Constitution.”
The Minority believes that the prolonged silence undermines democratic principles and called for immediate intervention to uphold the rights of constituents in the area.
